Climate Change and Energy Policy

As an advanced industrial country, South Korea is a large emitter of greenhouse gases. However, with the recognition of the importance of the climate change, South Korea has started to develop sustainable climate and energy policies. In 2020, the government announced the "Korean Green New Deal" and aims to achieve climate neutrality until 2050. The shift towards renewable energies and climate neutrality will provide new economic opportunities but also pose new challenges for society.

In this context, FES Korea supports think tanks, research institutes and civil society organizations in developing concepts for socially just and ecologically sustainable climate and energy policies. In cooperation with our partner organizations, we conduct research projects, organize policy dialogues and promote the exchange of experiences and cooperation between South Korea and Germany/the EU.
