Social Justice and Gender Equality

The dynamic economic development in South Korea was mainly carried by export-oriented industrial policy and large conglomerates (chaebols). However, the social development indicators have not been able to keep pace with economic progress. Thus, promoting social justice and gender equality remains an important task.

In this context, the FES Korea brings together diverse voices from think tanks, civil society organizations, trade unions and academia to jointly develop policy recommendations for a socially just and gender-equitable society. The main topics in this field are labour and trade union rights, irregular employment and gender equality in the world of work.

South Korea – An ageing society

South Korea is the fastest ageing society in the world. In 2020, South Korea´s fertility rate dropped to the lowest rate of any country in the world. Korea´s population has started to decline and working age population will shrink rapidly.
